ZOTAC ZBOX ID83 Plus Mini-PC Review

"Sapphire recently released the AMD A8 based Edge VS8 mini-PC and now we get a chance to see what ZOTAC's latest generation of system can offer in comparison. The ZBOX ID83 Plus takes us into Ivy Bridge in a system which is comparable in size to a decent router, let's find out how it performs..."

Something about these systems I find fascinating.
Thank you for the review.

Can you install Windows XP, Windows 98 on them?

Zotac dont have any XP (or 98) drivers on their site so it would be down to whether you could track down the drivers yourself.

In terms of performance the USB and CPU speeds are impressive for the systems size and the memory bandwidth is also decent, though we would have loved ZOTAC to go with a dual channel design.
The chipset this is based on supports dual channel. Seeing this, it's merely a matter of configuration. Simply add a SODIMM with the same specifications, and you'll have dual channel. Alternatively, just get the ID83-U model (barebones) and add 2 SODIMMs (and HDD) of your choosing to get the same dual channel benefit.

The point was that we felt the default configuration should be dual channel... with the consumer not needing to add anything.

Point taken. Perhaps the word "configuration" would have been more succinct, then. The "design" allows dual channel.
