The card itself is a relatively compact model which at this time follows the ATI reference design and therefore includes two dual-link DVIs. Use of the reference design means we have a reasonably compact dual slot cooler which sits on the GPU and makes no contact with the memory chips. At the back edge of the PCB is a single 6pin power connector which assists in providing 80 watts of power. Turning the card over we can see two crossfire connectors which tell us this product supports quad GPU configurations.
Under the cooler is a 40nm RV740 GPU which features 16 ROPs and 640 Unified Shaders. The card features 512Mb of 800MHz GDDR5 connected to the 750MHz core by a 128bit bus. Support for all the standard Radeon 4 series features is present on this model and includes DirectX 10.1, PCI-Express 2.0, Stream Computing and Blu-Ray acceleration. Finally, as expected, this card has the ability to output video and audio over HDMI.
NOTE: Shortly before going live with this article we received word from XFX that they will be releasing their own version of the 4770. It features a new PCB design and cooler and should be in stores shortly. See below for further information.
