Seasonic X-Series Fanless 400W Power Supply

Seasonic is a name which many reading will be aware of. They were founded in 1975 and from the very beginning have had a core business of power based products. Despite having a well-known brand name Seasonic products were rarely seen on enthusiast websites such as our own but slowly this is changing as they look at specific consumer markets to target.

In a meeting we had with them at CeBIT 2009 it was clear to us that they understood what consumers wanted and had a good plan in place to create products which were high quality, meeting the end user's needs. It was one of those rare meetings we walk away feeling completely impressed by what a company had said.

At the end of 2009 we got to see for the first time a retail PSU released with the new design ethic in place, that product was the X-Series 650w PSU. An 80Plus Gold certified unit it prompted us to say "It is certainly one of the best performing products we have ever tested..." granting it two awards.

Today Seasonic release the next PSU in their X-Series range, the X-400FL which aims to bring the same exceptional quality and performance to a new market segment. We have one of the first samples on our test bench so let's find out if it meets our expectations.
