XFX Radeon HD 5830 XXX Edition Review

XFX Radeon HD 5830 XXX Edition

In one month's time it will have been a year since ATI began releasing Radeon 5000 series cards. The first to hit the market was the 5870 and at the time it was considered to be a complete success, not only because of its raw performance but also because it was the first product to reach consumers which supported DirectX 11. Since then we have seen numerous additions to the 5000 series family, some higher specification and some lower such as the value orientated 5500's. One of the more recent releases, though it was actually 6 months ago, was the 5830 which was aimed at providing a card which hit a price and performance level between the 5770 and 5850.

Despite being 6 months into its product lifecycle the 5830 still has a lot to offer and that is why manufacturers such as XFX are releasing new product's based around its design. Today we have one of those cards on our test bench, the XFX Radeon 5830 XXX Edition and it will be put through its paces in a selection of real world gaming, multimedia and GPU computing tasks. As always these will feature DirectX 11 titles such as Alien Vs. Predator but we have also updated our test suite to include a first look at Mafia 2, Lost Planet 2 as well as StarCraft 2 and 3D Blu-Ray.
