GT 430 as a stand-alone PhysX card

On the last page we looked at the performance of the GT 430 when it was handling PhysX and standard rendering. There is however the option to use the GT 430 as a low cost PhysX accelerator though, enhancing the performance of a higher specification card.

To test this we installed a GTX 460 1GB in our test system and ran Mafia 2 again, this time at 1680x1050 with anti-aliasing, 16x anisotropic filtering and maximum in game details.

As the above results show, the GT 430 works very well as a standalone PhysX acceleratior. It allows the GTX 460 to concentrate on the game rendering and the combination of both increases the average framerate by nearly 10 frames per second.
