One of the key differences between the original Mini and the new version is the inclusion of Social Media functionality. To use this we must first connect to a network, wired or using the Playon! branded Wireless-N USB dongle. With the Wi-Fi dongle connected we simply enter the network setup, select our network and enter the password using an onscreen keyboard.
Once connected we are given a choice of "sites" to visit, these include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, eBuddy, Flickr and Picasa which covers all of the main sites that most social media users access. As a nice touch AC Ryan has added USB Keyboard and mouse functionality to the Mini 2 so should we be accessing a site such as Facebook which is reliant on typing we can use our standard peripherals to input our chat/status updates.
Each of the applications in the social media sections opens up in Fullscreen and operates in much the same way as a standard browser. YouTube has its own "app" style interface though with various options down the left. Files open in a player which is approximately 1/3 of the screen and we can view in HD as well as increase the image to fullscreen.
