Sapphire Round-up: Radeon 6950 fleX, Radeon 6870 fleX, Radeon 5850 Xtreme and Radeon 5830 Xtreme featuring Sapphire X58 Pure Black Motherboard Review

Total War: Shogun 2 - DirectX 9

Shogun 2 was released recently and features an enhanced version of the Total War engine which uses DirectCompute for depth of field, contact hardening shadows (higher quality) and hardware tessellation.

Testing was performed at 1920x1080/5760x1080 with no anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering. Maximum in game settings were enabled.

NOTE: The Creative Assembly recently removed DX 10-11 support to perform optimisation.

When playing Shogun 2 Sapphires range of cards offers some excellent performance at 1920x1080 with each averaging over 40fps. When we move up to 5760x1080 in Eyefinity mode the lower priced cards would need to reduce detail to achieve playable framerates however the 6950 offers acceptable performance for an RTS game at these demanding settings.

Here is how the game looks at our tested settings.
