Inno3D GTX 560 Ti iChill FreezerXSeries vs PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 PCS++ Graphics Card Review

Civilization 5 - DirectX 11 and 3D Gaming

Civilization 5 was released at the end of September 2010 and in a somewhat surprising move the developers have included a number of advanced graphical features in the latest version of this franchise. This includes support for DirectX 11 and terrain tessellation, ensuring this is the best looking Civilization ever.

Testing was performed at 1920x1080 (8xAA) and 5760x1080. High in-game settings were enabled.

Civilization 5 poses no real problems for our two cards; there is a drop below 25fps on each as we move between views however the main gameplay averages 85-96fps with the 6870 performing best and giving us a great gaming experience.

That said, this is a game where we see one of the strengths of the NVIDIA card, we can enable stereoscopic 3D when running in DX11 mode without issue, something that cannot be said of the AMD card. Stereoscopic 3D really enhances the CIV 5 experience so it is well worth keeping this result in mind.

Here is how the game looks at our tested settings.
