Palit NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Sonic Platinum Edition Graphics Card Review

Dragon Age 2 - DirectX 11

Dragon Age 2 was released recently and features support for various DirectX 11 features including Contract Hardening Shadows (more realistic), DirectCompute bloom effects, high quality depth of field, tessellation for smoother terrain, prepass lighting (higher detail lighting) and HDAO for low resource, high quality ambient occlusion.

Testing was performed at 1920x1080 with 2x anti-aliasing, 16x anisotropic filtering and maximum in game settings. The high resolution patch pack was also installed.

It is fair to say that when Dragon Age 2 was released there were more than a few issues with hardware compatibility. It wasn't a huge problem for those playing on older hardware but for the latest DirectX 11 cards there were performance and image quality problems from the very first scene. Now though with changes on the drivers provided by AMD and NVIDIA mixed with a second patch for the game we have a title which gives a much more satisfactory experience and even on our midrange GTX 560 sample we have some great performance at 1920x1080 with 2x anti-aliasing, 16x anisotropic filtering and maximum detail... including the use of the official high res textures pack.

Here is how the game looks at our tested settings.
