Palit NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Sonic Platinum Edition Graphics Card Review

Shogun 2 - DirectX 11

Shogun 2 was recently released and is the second title this year which will take advantage of 5x1 portrait mode for AMD cards. Mixed in with this feature is an enhanced version of the Total War engine which uses DirectCompute for depth of field, contact hardening shadows (higher quality) and hardware tessellation.

In addition to this The Creative Assembly recently released a patch which fixed and enhanced the original DirectX 11 implementation within the game, enhancing performance and image quality.

Testing was performed at 1920x1080 with maximum in game settings. Anti-aliasing was set to off, anisotropic filtering to 16x.

Benchmark Results

Despite the inclusion of benchmark modes within Shogun 2 (with the latest patch) we are using real world gameplay to measure performance, basically because we feel the benchmark scenes and views used don't reflect how the game is actually played.

So, for our final standard gaming test for this review we have a set of results which follow the same trend as many of the others in this article, the GTX 560 gives us great performance at 1920x1080 utilizing maximum detail levels and all of the games DirectX 11 features.

Here is how the game looks at our tested settings.
