Installing Windows, chances are that all of us have to do it at one point or another and while it is not essential to have fantastic performance in this area, it is a good test for writing a large amount of data to the drive in a short space of time. This is especially useful due to the fact the variation in file sizes being written is huge. The time taken is recorded from the moment we begin the install, after partitioning and formatting to when the prompt appears where we choose our username.
Installing Windows 7 on the Vertex 3 Max IOPS is a simple process, even on a motherboard with the latest SATA 6GB/s controller. For our Z68 based motherboard we simply ran the installer, selected the drive (formatting and partitioning to our needs) and then less than six minutes later our operating system was ready to use, beating the Crucial drive and matching the Intel model.
Quite a close set of results in this test with the Vertex 3 Max IOPS just edging ahead of the other two drives.
