Seasonic Platinum Series 1000W Power Supply Review

Conclusion

It has been some time since Seasonic announced their Platinum Series PSU but as stated in the product literature their aim isn't to be first to market, it is to release when the quality and pricing is right for the consumer.

Thinking about the quality aspect first we have a PSU which has an uncluttered, spacious internal design with high quality components used. These include 105°C Japanese and Conductive Polymer Aluminium Solid Electrolytic Capacitors and as always the little things such as components secured with extra adhesive are present.

The use of solid connectors to our outputs is a good move from Seasonic and the hybrid fan design is of course a nice addition to the PSU. That said we would have removed the switch entirely and forced the user to stick with Hybrid only as it performs so well. The only other minor design change we would make would be to colour code the modular ports and wiring to make it easier to see what each connector is for when the unit is in a compact case.

For performance the 1000w Platinum Series offered exceptional results in our testing. The efficiency and temperature readings were great but the star was the ripple results which were some of the best we have ever seen. Noise levels were also very impressive with the Hybrid fan keeping the PSU silent at idle and remaining near silent well in excess of 75% load.

Seasonic price the 1000w Platinum Edition PSU at €249 which is appropriate for its quality and specification. The real value adding aspect is the warranty though. At 7-years it guarantees the quality of the unit and minimises our need to buy a replacement model during that time.
