EUROCOM Panther 3.0 Desktop Replacement Laptop Review

A few years ago there were a number of small to medium sized manufacturers specialising in high specification laptops and desktop replacements but over time many have closed down and others become part of larger organisations, such as Voodoo PC merging into HP. That has left a select group of manufacturers to really push the boundaries of what is possible in a "mobile" system. One such company is EUROCOM and today we have one of their systems on our test bench.

The EUROCOM Panther 3.0 desktop replacement is available with components such as the X58 chipset, Core i7-990X hex core CPU, dual HD6900 series or GTX 580 graphics, triple channel memory... And that's before we even consider three fast SSD's in RAID0. Today we will see how this performs in a desktop replacement system and put the mobile versions of the GTX580 and HD6990 head to head in SLI/CrossFire using the latest games. These will of course include Batman Arkham City, Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim.

Packaging and Bundle


Considering the specification of the system inside the Panther 3.0 arrives in a very modest box. Inside we find the bundled components in one compartment and the system suspended in foam, wrapped in plastic in another.


The main item of note with this system is the laptop bag which will allow us to take the unit on short journeys, longer ones will require a more specialised backpack to offer additional comfort and security. (Alternative backpacks are available during the purchase process).


EUROCOM also include a large power supply which provides the system with up to 300w of power. Manufacturer by Chicony it will work across the world, regardless of voltage.
