Thortech Thunderbolt Plus 1000W Modular Power Supply Review

When it comes to PSUs Thortech may not be a brand which comes to mind immediately. In fact to many people they may not come across as a company competing in the high end of the PSU arena but with the release of their 1000w Thunderbolt Plus Thortech are aiming to do exactly that... but who are they?

Well their parent company is Golden Emperor International Limited... or as they are more commonly known, GeIL. That's right, another one of our favourite memory manufacturers has their own PSU range and not only that it comes with high wattage and 80 Plus Gold certification. Today we find out if GeIL/Thortech can compete with the best using their 1000w model.

Packaging and Bundle

Thortech go with a rather unique box for their PSU, not only is it massive and folds open in a rather unexpected way but there are two cloth straps meant for carrying the box. Inside we find the PSU surrounded by foam and wrapped in a cloth bag.

Bundled with the PSU we get a decent manual, thumbscrews for installation, mains cable, cable ties and our modular cables in a protective pouch.

The bundle doesn't stop there though, we also get an extra device which connects to the PSU and sits in a 5.25" drive bay, displaying statistics on the unit and allowing us to control aspects such as fan speed.
