So, let's take a look at this card...
HIS package their 7950 in a box which is very similar to the 7970 we reviewed earlier this month. It has a sword based design and gives us a list of the key features present on this product. Inside the box users can expect to receive product documentation and a driver CD, DVI to VGA convertor, CrossFire bridge and a GPU support bracket.
HIS use a custom, blue PCB for their 7950 which is a little shorter than the AMD reference design and mounted on the front is a dual slot cooler with shroud that's similar to the AMD version. Interestingly though this card doesn't have a cooler which covers the entire PCB, in fact it is a surprisingly compact model with copper block, aluminium fins and a single fan.
At the top edge of the card we can clearly see the dual CrossFire connectors and beside them the same dual BIOS switch which allows us to recover from any BIOS related issues which enthusiasts may experience.
HIS stick with the standard power connectors for this 7950, two 6-pin sockets which help provide the cards 200w. Round at the card outputs are the standard 7950 connectors, a single DVI, HDMI 1.4 and dual mini-DisplayPort connectors. As expected these sit on the first of our slots leaving the other free for airflow out of the card. We can output to four displays using these connectors and so three screen Eyefinity setups are available.
The core on this model is set to 800MHz and the 3GB of Hynix GDDR5 memory is set to 1250MHz. There are 112 Texture units within the 7950 along with 32 ROPS/128 Z-Stencil and for the Stream processors AMD/HIS have gone for a 1792 "core" design and our memory bus is 384-bit. PCIe 3.0, DirectX 11.1 and DirectCompute are all supported on this card as is acceleration of high definition content and the card can output 7.1 audio over HDMI including DTS Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.
