Cyborg F.R.E.Q. 5 Stereo Gaming Headset Review

Today on our test bench we have a new stereo gaming headset from the folks at Cyborg Gaming. The San Diego based gaming division of Mad Catz have been responsible for some of the most unusual and exceptional gaming mice we have seen recently. The R.A.T. range of mice is truly excellent, so much so that we are currently running a competition to win one of the new R.A.T. M.M.O 7 versions.

The F.R.E.Q. 5 stereo gaming headset is the first headset from the Cyborg studio, and as such we were really interested to see if they could take their innovative design standards from their mouse range, into the world of gaming audio.

Packaging and Bundle


The F.R.E.Q. 5 is presented in a medium sized cardboard box that features a large clear plastic section on the front to show the headset. The box features the now familiar angular design that we have come to associate with other products in the Cyborg Gaming range. Interestingly the front of the box also features a QR code linking to a YouTube video introducing the main features of the headset.

The side of the box features a large graphic of a bat. With each of the product ranges by Cyborg being represented by an animal it makes complete sense that they would go with a bat for their audio equipment.



While the F.R.E.Q. 5 is primarily aimed at the PC gaming market, it also works as an MP3/iPhone headset, so it is provided with two extension cables that connect to the headset via microUSB. One cable is a 1.0m long one with ends in a 3.5mm jack, and the other is a 2.0m long one which ends in a USB connector. Both of the cables provided are braided for extra durability.
