Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook Review

Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook Review

A couple of years ago at Cebit we met with Intel and one of the key topics they were keen to push was that all in one PCs were the next big thing. Those units which essentially build a whole PC into a system that looks like a monitor with keyboard and mouse were going to revolutionise computing the home, or so Intel hoped at that time.

Then tablets took off and consumers were no longer tied to a desk for consuming content online, they could perform their main tasks pretty much anywhere that had Wi-Fi, or in some cases 3G. So good was the concept that tablets have also begun cutting into the notebook space, very much replacing netbooks and often full sized systems as a primary device.

That said all is not lost for "traditional" mobile computing because one area which is starting to take off, mainly down to Intel's latest technology, is Ultrabooks. These are laptops which look to offer a full Windows experience in a high quality, compact chassis with battery life well in excess of standard laptops.

Dell were one of the first manufacturers to release an Ultrabook with up to date specification and today we have that model on our test bench. The XPS 13 mixes premium materials with some impressive specifications to try and tempt users away from more restrictive devices and into the world of performance mobile computing.
