Mini-Review: Samsung MV800 Camera (Takes on the 12MP Sony Xperia S Smartphone)


In years gone by cameras were a luxury item but as with many products they evolved into a stage where there would be one per household... maybe two but nowadays we all walk about with cameras in our pocket. Smartphones have become indispensable to many and with each new model we see claims of improved megapixel ratings, more advanced lenses and overall better image quality.

That said there is still very much a place for high end cameras, useful for professionals and enthusiasts alike the better models from the likes of Canon, Samsung and Nikon cost a small fortune but offer features and performance to match.

With the holidays approaching we have decided to take a quick look at a scenario which will be useful for many in the run up to summer holidays... should we rely on our high powered smartphone for those important holiday snaps, or is there still a place for the latest good quality point and shoot cameras in our suitcase or pocket? Enter the Samsung MV800 with flip out touch screen and 16MP sensor vs the Sony Xperia S 12MP Smartphone.

The MV800 arrives in a box which shows a clear image of the product, and one of its key selling points. Inside the camera is suspended in plastic with the bundled items in a compartment below. These include the product documentation, usb cable and charger. Also bundled are a rechargeableLi-Ion battery (740mAh) and in our review sample also included a 2GB Samsung memory card with the camera supporting up to 32GB.
