NETGEAR package their router in a sturdy box which gives us a clear image of the product as well as listing key features on the front and more detailed information on the back/sides. Inside we find the router wrapped in protective covers and suspended in cardboard.

Bundled with the WNDR4500 we find a selection of product documentation, setup CD, Cat 5e cable, mains power plug and the routers PSU.

The WNDR4500 is shown above and comprises of a black plastic main unit suspended on a transparent stand. The router measures 258x172.5x81mm and weighs 0.68KG.

Inside the device we have a set of components which are compatible with 2.4 and 5.0GHz bands with 450Mbps available on both simultaneously which gives the router its N900 branding. Wireless b/g/n and a/n are supported, as is WPA/WPA2-PSK security and the WNDR4500 also includes a advanced QOS technology as well as IPv6 support and double firewall (SPI and NAT) with denial of service protection. All of this is made possible thanks to the presence of high powered radio amplifiers (WiFi Boost) and 2x128MB of Flash/Ram backing up the controllers.

Looking round at the front of the device we find a Push N Connect button for quick addition of wireless devices to the network, Wi-Fi on/off switch and various status LEDs which let us know what the WNDR4500 is doing at a glance.

Round at the back NETGEAR have provided us with plenty of connectivity which starts with the power input and then is followed by our modem connection (Gigabit spec), four Gigabit Ethernet ports with auto sensing and two USB ports. The first is for ReadyShare USB storage and the second for printer sharing. Reset and power buttons are also present on the back of the device.

At the top of the router is a vent to allow airflow around the internal components and this is matched by another perforated section on the base.
