As well as controlling the volume and mic mute via the control pod we can enter the SteelSeries Engine control panel and in here set the equalizer manually or via a selection of profiles. The illumination can also be tweaked and profiles set so that the settings change depending on the application we run. The lighting profile of most interest is Trigger which has the LEDs flicker based on the audio the headset receives.
In terms of build quality and design just like the other models in the V2 range this headset feels solid and is very comfortable when in use thanks to the lightweight design and suspension system. Some would prefer a product which keeps more of the noise generated in but this is a minor point in a headset which performs very well. Also a minor issue is that changes in the control panel are not instant and we need to click save to see how they impact.
As well as having loads of volume, something which isnt always present on USB headsets, the overall sound is very lively and regardless of the task we threw at the headset it performed well, including with decent clarity in mids/highs and plenty of bass were required. Our fellow players also noted that voice communications were exceptionally clear with minimal background noise evident. Finally, as always, we love the fact our microphone can be hidden inside the left ear cup when not in use, while offering maximum flexibility when extended.
For value at £120/$120 the headset is reasonably priced however as we noted on the Diablo 3 headset, which is similar, a small drop in price would take this very much into the must buy category.
Summary
Some lovely styling mixed with great performance mean the SteelSeries Siberia V2 Frost Blue is an exceptional gaming headset.
