Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7in Tablet Review

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7" Tablet Review

The release of the iPad Mini made it clear that Apple felt they needed to compete in a market which had previously seemed unattractive to them. This was a response to the success of the Nexus 7 from Google/ASUS and the growing popularity of Kindle Fire from Amazon. While both were aimed at a different market to the iPad (and other larger tablets) they may well have impacted sales indirectly by giving those who could have saved previously a lower entry point to the portable device market.

As part of a flurry in the tablet market which saw the refresh of the Nexus 7, release of iPad Mini and debut of Microsoft's Surface Amazon return to the marketplace with a follow up to their Kindle Fire, the Kindle Fire HD. Today we have one on our test bench to find out how it stacks up against the competition.

Packaging and Bundle

Amazon package the Kindle Fire HD in some very basic packaging. We have a very compact external box which opens to reveal the tablet suspended above our bundled items, wrapped in protective plastic. It is certainly an environmentally friendly box.

Underneath the tablet we find the product documentation and a USB charge/data cable. There is no mains PSU/plug with the Kindle Fire HD.
