Real World Testing

For our real world testing we first run an encoding test with Adobe Media Encoder CS6. This test takes a 4GB RAW 2560x1600 file and converts it to Blu-Ray format and is designed to take advantage of all system resources, including all 8 threads on our i7 CPU. Gaming is represented by a run-through of Hitman Absolution at 1920x1080 with Ultra Detail and we also test the impact these kits have on our Windows boot time as well as an application load (Heaven benchmark). Finally we run stability testing on the modules using various applications such as Prime95 to stress the sticks and test their temperature with an Infra-Red thermometer.

On the last page we saw that there were some gains in synthetic performance and those continue on into the real world testing. When encoding video we see a drop in time during our short encode which is always good to see and the gaming/load tests also showed small benefits on Kingston. It should be remembered though that the 32GB capacity also gives us extra flexibility as using an After Effects project as an example it is easy to use 6-7GB of available memory when encoding a short video. We also noted some good temperatures on the Beast Kit which ran 4°C cooler than the 2133MHz kit which has no heat spreaders.
