GPU Computing: The XPS One 27" series allow us, when used with the correct software, to take advantage of GPU acceleration in tasks which are normally performed on CPU only. One such piece of software is Cyberlink MediaExpresso.
Media Playback: One of the many tasks consumers regularly perform on their systems is watching streaming content such as video on YouTube. Of course like any other media source YouTube also allows us to watch high definition video and with the latest browsers our GPU can assist in processing the playback.
On the last page we saw that in our synthetic tests the XPS One 27" performs well, certainly a match in those tests for a standard desktop system. As we move on to real world performance the results are equally positive. Music encoding as an example shows the potential of the CPU and hyperthreading, allowing us to encode 8 tracks at one time for an entire 2cd album to MP3 in less than a minute. Video encoding runs smoothly too and the media potential of the system is shown further by the 1080 playback performance. Playback of HD content barely taxes the i7 CPU in this system.
