DVD Burning:
Onto the apex of this review: DVD burning. As we know, the most tantalizing feature of the Lite-On SOHW-1673S is its ability to write DVD+R Double Layer discs at 4x speeds. But before I get to that, I am going to test out basic DVD burning with single layer Recordable and ReWriteable discs. For those who can't wait, scroll down the bottom of the page for DVD DL burning.

DVD+Recordable:
Just like I did with CD burning, I tested the SOHW-1673S's DVD writing by burning discs at both the maximum and minimum record speeds I could, along with the second fastest DVD burning speed possible.

4.38GB DVD+R @ 6x in 10mins 55secs
RiData media (Ritek R03 dye)

4.38GB DVD+R @ 12x in 7mins 20secs
Unbranded media (CMC MAG M01 dye)

4.38GB DVD+R @ 16x in 6mins 5secs
Unbranded media (CMC MAG M01 dye)
We got some nice results across the board here. All the burns either hit their projected speeds, or surpassed it. Quite impressive!
DVD+ReWriteable:
Sine I only had 2.4x and 4x DVD+RW media available to me, those were the only two speeds I could test. The SOHW-1673S can burn DVD+RWs @ 8x and DVD-RWs at 6x.

4.38GB DVD+RW @ 2.4x in 23mins 29secs
TDK media (MCC A01 dye)

4.38GB DVD+RW @ 4x in 14mins 10secs
RiData media (RicohJPN W11 dye)
Very steady burning results once again. Maintaining a constant burning speed is important for optimal burn quality.
DVD+R Double Layer:
Here's the apex, as promised.
4x Double Layer DVD writing is the latest innovation in DVD burning, but for comparison, I also burned a disc @ 2.4x.

7.96GB DVD+R DL @ 2.4x in 44mins 33secs
Verbatim media (MKM 001 dye)

7.96GB DVD+R DL @ 4x in 26mins 53secs
Verbatim media (MKM 001 dye)
