Thecus N2560 NAS Review

Thecus N2560 NAS Review

Many mobile phone manufacturers and cloud storage companies would have us believe that living in the cloud is ideal now. We should store all of our content there and access it remotely... But in reality there are still too many issues with that and primarily the speed/availability of our mobile networks or even our home internet connection. Let's face it, creating or obtaining hundreds of gigabytes or even many terabytes of data is easy. That's why we see more and more local storage devices landing on our test bench and the focus of today's review is a brand new NAS from Thecus.

The N2560 uses the latest media ready ATOM processor from Intel as well as running Thecus newest operating system, version 6. With HDMI/audio out and the relevant media apps bundled can perform well enough to be our storage and media centre?

Packaging and Bundle

Thecus package their NAS in a large sturdy cardboard box which looks much more stylish than the design used on their previous generation products. Inside we find the NAS suspended in foam and wrapped in a protective bag. Adding further protection is a layer of plastic on the surface of the NAS which we must peel off and bundled with the system is a selection of product documentation, 40w PSU, power cable, network cable and software CDs. Also present are two sets of rails which we push onto the side of our drives to assist with installation.
