The Unreal 3 engine is capped to approximately 62/63 frames per second by default, and so the most useful statistic in this test is the minimum framerate. Our testing was performed at 1680x1050 with 16x anisotropic filtering. Once again all in-game settings are on their highest setting which means DirectX10 and in game anti aliasing enabled.
With every setting at its maximum level there is only one card in today’s review which achieves completely smooth framerates and that is the XFX 8800 GT XXX. Sitting with a minimum frames per second result of thirty the card is seven ahead of the stock model and eleven ahead of the fastest Radeon. Specifically looking at the comparison between the two ATI cards there is once again a small increase in performance on the 3870 but not anything which would be noticeable when gaming.
