Overclocking

The 6800 Ultra board we had was a reference design and once manufacturers get their hands on samples and add their own tweaks to the design and use more refined cores the overclocking results will more than likely differ from the reference design. For this reason we have only performed a small amount of overclocking on our sample. It gives you a rough idea of what to expect from production boards.

Using the coolbits registry hack to enable overclocking through the drivers we were able to take the card from 400mhz core to 458mhz and the memory from 550mhz to 605mhz which is just above the memory’s rated speed.

Here’s how the overclock affected the UT2004 scores at 1600x1200:

Overclocking the X800 Pro was achieved by using ATI’s own tool and a stable overclock of 540mhz core and 580mhz (1.16ghz effective) was achieved. As the X800 Pro is much closer to the retail board than the 6800 Ultra sample we have included more overclocking results. Before we get on to the results its worth pointing out that the below overclock is an excellent result and gives this card the potential to be the modders choice. We’ve also thrown the stock and OC 6800Ultra scores into the results to show how they compare…
