G.Skill packages their PI Series DDR3 in a plain brown cardboard box which tells us that the memory was designed for Core i7-860 and 870 CPUs. Inside we find a cooler and installation guide. The cooler is similar to that provided by other manufacturers and clips on to the memory slots on our motherboard. It features a blue LED single ball bearing fan, 3-pin plug and runs at 3200RPM creating 21dBA of noise.
These unbuffered, non-ECC, 240-pin DIMMs use a green PCB and large aluminium heatsink which is black. Attached to the front of the heatsink is a sticker which informs us of the specification of these modules. They are certified to run at a massive 2200MHz but not only that, they use very impressive timings of 7-10-10-28 at that speed. To reach these specifications we require the standard i7 voltage of 1.65v.
These 2GB sticks are programmed with SPD settings for 518, 592 and 666MHz and also feature an XMP profile for the rated speed of DDR3-2200. This XMP profile also sets a 1T command rate. Finally, as with many manufacturers G.Skill offer a lifetime warranty on their modules.
