Music Encoding - dBpoweramp

Our music conversion test takes a 15 track lossless album and converts it using dBpoweramp into 128Kbps Mp3 format. dBpoweramp is a multi-threaded application which allows us to convert a track on each core, at any one time.

dBpoweramp is a multi-threaded application mainly uses 4 CPU cores, though some work does occur on additional threads. When comparing the 975 and 980X in this application we see a small increase in performance on the new CPU which brings our total conversion time down to 38s. Thankfully it is possible to run multiple instances of the application at the same time and in this scenario we can utilise the potential of the 980X to a greater extent. By assigning tracks to each instance of the program we are able to drop the conversion time to just 26 seconds. That’s 15 tracks of lossless music to 128Kbps MP3 in 26 seconds, quite staggering.
