NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Launch Review

Aliens VS Predator - DirectX 11

Everyone is familiar with the Aliens VS Predator franchise, this time Sega have rebooted the licence taking over from Sierra. AVP is a DirectX 11 game, which means we have advanced shadow rendering and high-quality tessellation for compatible cards.

Testing was performed at 1680x1050 with 1x anti-aliasing, 16x anisotropic filtering and maximum in game settings.

In our first test we look at a demanding section of Aliens Vs. Predator which features a section of gameplay using various smoke, steam, lighting and shadow effects and a huge number of enemies, over 50 by the time the area is complete.

The first thing that needs to be said about these results is that the GTX 260 is not comparable to the rest of the cards as it is running reduced quality visuals due to lack of DirectX 11 support. For the other cards we see that the three 460s actually perform at a similar level. On average and minimum framerates the GTX 460s are lower performers than the 5830 at these settings however the compare well with the same card on maximum framerate with the GTX 470 scoring best overall.
