Conclusion

What we did like:

Although we had initial doubts about the Akasa Revo, it proved to be an exceptionally good performer. It certainly is very quiet and despite the fact that it is not designed to be a high performance overclocking cooler, it does pretty well keeping a highly overclocked CPU reasonably cool. It is also very lightweight and extremely easy to install. The manufacturing quality of the cooler appeared to be high and we could not find any defects, serious or minor, despite the fact that we are looking today at an engineering sample.

What we did not like:

The only physical downside of the Revo is the necessity to install the cooler on a vertically mounted motherboard and with the cooler facing upwards. This makes the cooler unusable in most HTPC cases, although we think it would be too tall for most of them anyway.

The other downside of the Revo is not physical; it’s the price tag. Retailing at around £45, it is actually one of the most expensive currently available.

Who would we recommend it to:

The Akasa Revo is designed to be a very quiet performance cooler, and it copes well at this task. It is virtually silent and manages to compete with some of the best air coolers out there when you look at outright performance levels.

In terms of quality, the unit is well engineered. After all, would a UK based computer company use a Danish patent and combine it with a radiator made in France by a very famous German company if it wasn’t meant to be something really good? The fact that half of Europe got together to design, build and market the Revo doesn’t matter to the end user; what really matters is that the Revo is an exceptionally good all round product, making it the choice of everyone who wants a high performance and silent CPU cooler.

Considering all of the above, even the high asking price, we believe that the Akasa Revo is certainly worthy of our Editor’s Choice Award.

What do these awards mean?

The Akasa Revo currently retails at Overclockers.co.uk for £35 + VAT.
