Futuremark’s PCmark05 runs a number of tests
on your system designed to stress various aspects
of the machine such as CPU and graphics performance.
With HD and Memory tests also thrown in it’s
a useful indication of your systems overall performance.
Scores in excess of 5000 are considered excellent.
As you can see from the above results
the Alienware MJ-12 is no slouch in PCmark05. Our
unit managed to easily pass the 5000mark barrier
at stock settings. Additionally there were numerous
highlights as far as performance was concerned such
as the HD performance and CPU performance. Where
things were not as impressive were on the graphics
front however as this benchmarks 3D graphics tests
were aimed more at gaming performance that doesn’t
concern us too much.
Photoshop CS2
Most people are tired of running 3dmark and Pcmark
and similar benchmarks, while these are visually
attractive benchmarks they are not in many cases
indicative of real world situations, this is not
the case with Photoshop. This is a real world application
with a myriad of uses appealing to all users from
digital photographers to budding graphic designers.
It is also a wonderful test of all round system
performance, specifically memory bandwidth and CPU
processing power. Massive files are also a good
test of hard drive access performance as Photoshop
will rely heavily for its "paging file".

If you’ve been reading all of the results
up to this point in our review you’ll be expecting
the MJ-12 to provide some exceptional results regardless
of the test’s run. In this respect the Photoshop
results don’t disappoint. The system performs
well across the board and becomes one of the few
systems we’ve tested which score below 1minute
on test 10 and under 50 seconds on test 11.
