Final
words and conclusion
What
we did like:
Let
us cut straight to the chase, the HX620W is one
hell of a powerful supply. It is immensely strong
and stable. No matter how heavily loaded the power
lines would barely quiver. The design of the HX620W
is excellent, as the unit is elegant and eye-catching
and is a refreshing change from the gaudy and
ugly power supplies we get into our testing labs.
We also enjoyed the silence of the HX620W under
normal operation, which is something every user
should be thankful for. Last but certainly not
least, Corsair offer a 5 year warranty for this
unit which should give a prospective customer
a great feeling of reassurance.
What
we did not like:
The
only possible downsides to shortlisting the HX620W
would be the noise from the fan under full load
and the asking price. If someone was to connect
this unit to an extremely high end SLI or Crossfire
gaming system with a plethora of hard drives and
other hardware connected, the noise generated
by the HX620W could very well become tiresome.
However, for reference, a system with a highly
overclocked Conroe processor, 5 hard drives and
an ATi X850 Pro video card was not enough to make
the fan of the HX620W speed up at all. Lastly,
the price of the HX620W makes it one of the most
expensive power supply units currently available,
and we feel all but the most serious enthusiasts
may find this product out of their price range
(160 euros). That said, quality is never cheap.
Who
we would recommend it to:
The
Corsair HX620W power supply unit is simply state-of-the-art.
It is extremely powerful, stable and entirely
silent while installed in a typical high end enthusiast
system. It is also built with the finest material
and comes with a reassuring and exceptional 5
year warranty. However, the price of this power
supply unit is quite high, therefore realistically
it will be marketed to the higher end enthusiast
with a larger income, in this case it really is
one of the best units money can buy. The HX620W
could also be a great choice for small to medium
sized servers, and in this environment the price
would make it somewhat of a bargain. A wonderful
showing from Corsair.
Taking
all of the above into consideration, we strongly
believe that the Corsair HX620W is worthy of our
Editor’s Choice award, if the noise levels
had been slightly lower when powering the most
extreme gaming systems then (even with the hefty
price tag) it would have won our coveted Heavenly
Hardware Gold Award.

What
do these awards mean?
The
Corsair HX620W retails for ~160€ in EU at
the time of this review.
