Testing at 250MHz HTT

Sisoft Sandra is a popular synthetic benchmark, commonly used when testing the speed of RAM modules. When testing the RAM buffered, the overall speed is heavily affected by the CPU and FSB speed. Testing the RAM unbuffered will provide much more accurate results, but beware that Sisoft Sandra is a synthetic benchmark and does not represent real-world performance. Here we see that despite the slower timings, the 45MHz difference does make the RAM considerably faster. As most value oriented modules are running at 200MHz with 3/3/3/7 timings, this could be a good comparison of what Corsair has to offer over cheap modules.

RightMark Memory Analyzer v3.42

RightMark Memory Analyzer is another standard memory benchmark. We ran the standard stream benchmark and noted the average results. The RightMark memory analyzer gives us almost identical results to Sisoft Sandra, thus merely strengthening the validity of the benchmark.

As the processor’s speed here is the same, it is clear that the higher RAM speed gives a performance boost, albeit no more than just above a second across the whole benchmark. One second is not much but heavy Photoshop users will notice it after working with Photoshop for a long period of time.

RightMark Memory Analyzer v3.42

Unfortunately, the results we took from running the RAM up to 278MHz are not directly comparable with the results we took before. This is because RAM performance is directly connected to the CPU speed and the HTT speed, both of which were changed in order to run the RAM at this speed. The CPU is now running at 2230MHz and the HTT speed is set to 278MHz. Despite the slightly lower RAM speed, the performance of the RAM dramatically improved. Rightfully so as the ram is running 30MHz higher than our previous fastest setting. Great overclocking potential and capability from a pair of modules which are designed as a middle range gamer/enthusiast kit.
