Conclusion

Crucial once again designed a pair of very versatile modules for the enthusiasts and gamers. The modules can be adjusted for many systems, as they can handle a different set of timings at each speed. Overclockers will love the overclocking potential of the modules, plus their ability to maintain tighter timings at considerably high speeds. Running with 3/2/2/8 timings at 360MHz out of the box without any kind of effort isn’t a small feat. There is no CPU currently available with a FSB anywhere near to 360MHz, for those that like to run their systems without using any RAM dividers (1:1). And given the rarity of even 266MHz FSB CPUs currently, it is going to take quite some time until we see one.

The appearance of the modules is nothing extraordinary, but the black PCB and striking gold heatspreaders can appeal to modders. Especially to those with yellow or black PCB motherboards, or even better, black motherboards with yellow RAM slots. Aesthetics depend on someone’s opinion and way of thinking, so I am not going to talk much about that.

Pros

*Excellent versatility, can work with all sets of timings
*Exceptional performance
*Use of 2.2V will not void your warranty
*Lifetime warranty, backed by Crucial’s support
*They come in 2GB kits also

Cons
*The price, they aren’t anything near cheap!

The excellent versatility and performance of the modules allows me to give the Ballistix PC2-8000 modules our Heavenly Hardware Silver Award. I refrain from giving them our Gold award only because of their very high price, as they are way beyond many people’s budget. You will need nearly a thousand dollars (or Euro) to get a hold of 2GB worth of these modules.
