Enermax Jazz EB307ES (3,5” SATA I & II HDD, USB + eSATA)

The 3.5” version of the Jazz enclosure is supplied in a small but sturdy cardboard box, with simple but elegant artwork. It offers more than enough protection to the extremely lightweight enclosure. Inside the box you will find only a well written manual, a USB data cable, a second USB power cable (usually necessary with >160GB disks) and a spare screw. Although Enermax also advertises a bag in their website we found none in our package, perhaps because we received an engineering sample product.

The 3.5” Jazz enclosure looks pretty much alike the 2.5” version, but larger at 220x124x43 (DxWxH). The black colored chassis is entirely made out of aluminum with only the connection ports and switches being made out of plastic. The entire top surface is a perforated mesh, allowing the installed HDD to ‘breathe’ and aids the cooling. At the rear of the enclosure you can see the USB and eSATA connection ports, the AC-DC adapter connector and a simple rocker on/off switch.

The installation of the HDD inside the 3.5” Jazz enclosure is most interesting, you will not need a single tool for this. First, you have to unlock the sliding top by pushing the switch found at the front part of the chassis and remove the top of the enclosure. Then you only have to push your SATA disk in the connector and push it down to lock itself in place. Finally you only have to slide the top mesh back into place and lock it again. The installation can be literally done in 15 seconds, making the Jazz enclosure highly interesting to people who swap HDDs often.
