What
we did like:
Obviously
we loved the capability of the RAM to work with
3/3/2/8 timings at 250MHz and even tighter timings
at lower speeds. Up to today no other PC4000 rated
1GB module could work with tight timings at such
a high speed. This aspect is something that enthusiasts
and gamers will love, so now there are no compromises
between high speed and large capacity.
What
we did not like:
We believe
that the set has only one negative point. It appears
that no matter how easily the kit can work at 250MHz
with such tight timings and low voltage, no matter
how much one will loosen the timings and up the
voltage they will not be able to overclock much
higher. Our particular kit hit a wall at 260MHz.
The older HZ series could not work with (nearly)
so tight timings but could overclock higher with
loose timings if it was needed.
Who
we would recommend it to:
As the tight
timings affect mainly 3D performance, we would recommend
the HV series kit to serious gamers. Of course,
anyone who requires a hefty amount of fast DDR RAM
will find the G.Skill HV series kit a very noteworthy
part for their system.
We believe
that the G.Skill F1-4000BIU2-2GBHV kit is worthy
of our Heavenly Hardware Gold Award. It is the currently
fastest 2GB kit and it seems like it will stay this
way until the passing of DDR.
