Final words and conclusion
The GMC R-2 Toast is obviously a very unique type of case. It is good looking, very lightweight and small, but it relies on its unique design in order to succeed and that is a double edged sword for GMC as this design is not flawless. It makes the case considerably smaller and lightweight, as well as minimising the need of open space at the front of the case for the optical drive trays, but you can install only a single 5.25” drive and also only two hidden 3.5” drives inside the case. In short, the optical drive mounting method is the main feature of the R-2 Toast, but it also causes all of its drawbacks. It is innovative and looks good, but it makes the R-2 much more suitable to a living room than an enthusiast’s desktop. You certainly can install a considerably powerful system inside the R-2 Toast, even utilizing the most powerful processor and PCIe card, but an enthusiast should recognize that there are only a small number of hard disk drive slots and the limited cooling will not suffice for highly overclocked systems and SLI/Crossfire configurations.
The price of the GMC R-2 Toast is very competitive. While the case is not yet available through major retailers in the EU and US, it is expected to be selling for 50€/60$ retail price. This may make the R-2 Toast a shortlist for people who would enjoy a good looking and innovative case while they do not care about a large number of optical and hard disk drives. The GMC R-2 Toast is a good quality, small and lightweight case which definitely should be under consideration if you arent the kind of user who needs many drives or great cooling capabilities. Due to the low asking price we award this unit our Editor's Choice Award.
