Final words and conclusion

The continuous advancement of computers and their software, along with the increasing popularity of Windows Vista has made many people think about installing more than 2GB of RAM in their system. A large percentage of these people will be gamers who will set their eyes upon the GEIL Black Dragon Quad Channel kits quickly. The 800MHz Black Dragon set we reviewed performed well, was stable looks great inside a windowed chassis. While the overclocking headroom is rather small, it is mostly caused by all of the DIMM banks being populated and the stress created on the memory controller, not because of the individual potential of the modules themselves.

The only thing that may cause enthusiasts doubt before ordering is the fact that the 2x1GB set of the same exact specifications from GEIL costs less than one third of the price of the 4x1GB set. Certainly the 4x1GB set allows for peace of mind as the modules are coming out of the same batch and are tested together, but buying two 2x1GB sets will cost significantly less.

In summary the GEIL 800MHz Quad Channel Black Dragon set provides solid performance and reliability and looks great, it should be in everyone’s shortlist if they want 4 to 8 GBs of DDR2 RAM in their system.

What do these awards mean?

The GEIL Gaming Series PC2-6400 4GB Quad Channel Kit can be found in Alternate.de for 202€.

EDIT: Since publishing the review, the price has dropped by over 40 euros, making this kit exceptional value for money!
