As we suspected, the voltage regulation circuit of the two units performs nearly identical since they are based on the same design. The only noticeable difference can be seen in the 3rd 12V line graphs of the units, where the 18A line of the 680W unit is perceptibly weaker than the 30A line of the 880W unit. While the line is certainly strong enough for a unit of its class, when the units are significantly overloaded, the 5M880 has a clear advantage over the 5B680. The 5B680 will work with ~760W load for several minutes but the 3rd 12V line will fall down to ~11.06V; way too low to ensure the stability of your system, where the 5M880 will work with ~1000W load for a short period of time as well, yet none of its 12V lines will fall below ~11,62V.
Although on the thermal performance and efficiency sector the 5M880 has a distinct advantage over the 5B680 again, the performance of the 5B680 alone is enough to class the performance of the unit as outstanding. Both units continuously deliver over 80% efficiency across their whole operating range, with the 5M880 reaching 88% efficiency at 50% load. This not only will keep your PSU cooler and increase its reliability, but will slightly reduce your electric bill as well.
