Final
words and conclusion
What
we did like:
The first
thing that we enjoyed about this kit is its retail
price. The HP3200 2GB kit costs not much more than
two average 1GB modules and can perform much better.
The kit is rated to run at 2/3/2 timings, which
are exceptionally fast for a 2GB kit even at 200MHz
(400MHz DDR) and nearly the fastest that DDR RAM
can handle. The overclocking capability is good
for a middle range kit, but do not expect it to
break any records.
What
we did not like:
There is
no negative side to this kit other than the behaviour
of the Infineon BE-5 chips while overclocking. These
chips do not react well to voltage, meaning that
voltages over 2.9V actually degrade the performance
of the modules instead of improving it. Also they
can work with 2.5/3/3/6 and overclock well, but
slower timings will not aid overclocking at all
beyond that point.
Who
we would recommend it to:
To anyone
looking to upgrade their RAM and have a DDR based
system. The HP3200 kit offers excellent value and
performance, along with a hefty amount of RAM for
your system.
We believe
that the HP3200 2GB kit is worthy of our Heavenly
Hardware Gold Award. It has more than an excellent
value to performance factor.
