Test system configuration and notes:

• CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (2160MHz)
• Motherboard: Epox 9NPA+ (240MHz HTT)
• HDD: Seagate 80GB 7200.7 SATA
• PSU: Be-Quiet P6-470W
• VGA: Sapphire Radeon X800

To begin with, we tried to find the maximum overclocking capability of the HP3200 2GB kit. We found out that the best this kit could achieve was 240MHz with 2.5/3/3/6 timings. For convenience purposes we booted the system at 240MHz HTT, so that by using the proper divider (CPU/11) we could also run the modules down to 197MHz with 2/3/2/6 timings, very close to their rated stock speed, while keeping the results comparable. The DDR voltage was set at 2.8V through all of the tests. Extra voltage would not help the overclocking of the modules any further as Infineon BE-5 chips do not react well to high voltages. Stability is tested by running Memtest for at least 30 minutes at the test settings to ensure that there are no errors.

Sisoft Sandra is a popular synthetic benchmark, commonly used when testing the speed of RAM modules. When testing the RAM buffered, the overall speed is heavily affected by the CPU and FSB speed. Testing the RAM unbuffered will provide much more accurate results, but beware that Sisoft Sandra is a synthetic benchmark and does not represent real-world performance. Of course the results taken with the RAM running at 240MHz are better; 40MHz is quite a difference even though the timings are a bit slower. We could not help but notice that the RAM is performing exceptionally well at both speeds, as it is outrunning many modules that we previously tested, even though we are running the RAM and CPU at a slower speed.

RightMark Memory Analyzer is another standard memory benchmark. We ran the standard stream benchmark and noted the average results. As usual RMA gives results close to Sandra, and again we see the 2GB HP3200 kit giving excellent performance.
