Final words and conclusion

The Giant Connector 850W unit is a very good product from NorthQ which can compete comfortably in its class. The performance of the unit is good overall, with competent output and voltage regulation. It has good efficiency and it is aesthetically pleasing, as long as you don’t mind the red LED lights. It should be a good match for high end and HTPC systems. What could be improved however is its thermal performance, which causes it to become loud at high output levels. Certainly the unit will stay silent most of the time, but it would be much better if it could stay silent all of the time. The packaging of the unit could also be improved, as it offers minimal protection during shipping.

The Giant Connector retails for over 1450 Denmark Kroner (about 200€), which is a significant outlay for a PSU. The cost will certainly make it appealing only to enthusiasts and hardcore PC users on a higher budget, perhaps even to high end HTPC system builders, but it is priced above the budget of an average enthusiast user. In summary, for hardcore users, we believe that the NorthQ Giant Connector 850W unit is a good choice, worthy of our Shortlist Award.
