Final Words and Conclusion

The NorthQ Silent Lightning is not a unit designed to break records, but equally so, it won't break your bank balance either, and it will provide good looks and reasonable features at the same time. The chrome chassis, sleeved cables and LED fan provide the design appeal while the performance of the unit is reasonable. The voltage lines are stable enough across the entire load range of the unit.

While the rear USB ports are not a ground-breaking feature, it could be useful to many people who can use the extra ports to charge their devices without using motherboard data ports. The only thing that the Silent Lighting has to do is to stay competitive in its class. Unfortunately, at £49 per piece, it is also one of the most expensive 400W units currently available. Good looks and silent operation are good things but they do raise the cost of the unit significantly. So while it may be a good choice overall for a typical home PC, the good looks, USB ports and silent operation will still cost you a little extra.

We grant the NorthQ Silent Lightning 400W unit our DriverHeaven’s Shortlist Award.
