Sisoft’s
“Sandra” tool allows you to run a series
of component specific tests on your system and compare
them to a wide number of components within the results
database. This can be useful in determining how
well your system is performing and if any changes
in components would benefit performance.

We’ll
look at memory bandwidth performance later on in
the article so for now lets look at the difference
in performance you get from changing your memory.
The baseline results should be the Corsair figures
as they are based on a 1Gb product which was widely
available and will probably be most similar to the
modules most end users have already. Comparing firstly
the move from 1Gb (Corsair) to 2gb (OCZ400) we see
that the performance achieved is very similar in
both the Arithmetic and Multimedia test, despite
the lower timings of the Corsair memory. Looking
next at the enhanced speed of the OCZ we see that
there isn’t a great difference in performance
however the OCZ 466 results are all ahead of the
DDR400 results.
