NOTE: To achieve DDR3-1800 speeds the CPU has to be slightly overclocked, this means that we are running at 3.15GHz compared to 3.0GHz on DDR3-1333. (7x Multi 450Mhz FSB, FSB:Dram 1:2)
We have seen that DDR3-1333 has a decent performance advantage over DDR2-1066 and whilst the increase in performance was not huge it did show that DDR3 should be given serious consideration if building an Intel based system. What we see with DDR3-1800 is that the performance gap between the two DDR3 specifications is quite considerable. We have to take into account that the CPU is also slightly overclocked, despite this the gains still exceed the performance which would be achieved by overclocking the CPU only. In both Photoshop and music conversion the DDR3 results achieved on the Corsair modules make a noticeable difference to the overall time taken and as a result can assist in increasing productivity.
Memory bandwidth also shows a good increase with scores of 8700 far exceeding those of DDR3-1333 and increasing by over 2200 points the bandwidth results achievable on our high specification DDR2 memory.
