QX 9770

The QX9770 is identical in almost every way to the QX9650. For starters we are again looking at a Yorkfield core based CPU. It is 45nm, runs on a lower voltage than Kentsfield, has 12mb of Level 2 cache and supports SSE4. The One major difference is that this processor uses a 1600MHz front side bus, 277MHz faster than the QX9650. The QX9770 runs at 3.2GHz by combining the 1600MHz (400MHz x4) FSB with an 8x multiplier. TDP for this chip is 136w. As a result of the increased FSB we should see some significant gains in performance over the QX9650 when we combine the QX9770 with some high specification memory.

Before we look at the performance of each chip, a quick word on compatibility. The Yorkfield should work on most P35, X38 and X48 boards with only a BIOS flash needed. Support on other chipsets may well be limited and for the moment we are waiting to see how it pans out. For the moment the QX9650 is available to buy with the QX9770 reaching stores early next year.
