To follow up on the success of the Real Power 450W PSU, Cooler Master has released the new Real Power 550W SLI. It complies with both the Intel standard ATX 12V V 2.01 and SSI standard EPS 12V V2.1. They recommend the Real Power 550W as a viable solution for high end workstations and gaming rigs that contain those power hungry dual graphic card solutions based on SLI or Crossfire technology. The Real Power 550W PSU has dual output connectors for PCI Express VGA cards and has intelligent fan speed control and “real power" capacity that will help to maintain the stability and reliability of your computer system even at the most demanding moments.

As with every item we receive from Cooler Master, the packaging of their products is top notch. The Real Power 550W PSU even has a handle on the package to make transportation a breeze. The contents come tightly packaged in an “egg crate” that contained everything required for installation as well as a small 3.5” front panel display unit that shows the total power consumption your system is using in real time.

The casing of our review unit is polished black enamel; this type of finish looks great but is notorious for showing fingerprints. The Real Power 550 has a 120mm blue led fan to exhaust the heat created by the PSU. The fan will help draw and exhaust some of the warm air out of the inside of the case as well.

Power supplies like the Real Power 550W SLI include a circuit board that contain thermal sensors. This heat sensitive circuit board controls the speed at which the fan spins based on the temperature recorded by the thermal sensor. This effectively manages the power supplies heat and noise levels.

The rear panel of the PSU is a steel mesh honeycomb style. This honeycomb design is efficient when it comes to exhausting heat from inside the power supply.

The two side panels of the power supply contain the usual stickers showing the unit output specifications and the relevant cautions regarding the dangers associated with opening.
