Kicking
off into benchmarks, Sisoft Sandra refused to
run at all, a compatibility issue we could not
pin-point. Unfortunately at the time of benchmarking,
version XI had not been released. So moving straight
onto PC Mark 2005.
Futuremark’s
PCmark05 runs a number of tests on a system designed
to stress various aspects of the machine such
as CPU and graphics performance. With HD and Memory
tests also thrown in it’s a useful indication
of your systems overall performance. Scores in
excess of 6500 are considered excellent for desktop
systems with laptops scoring around 3500.

Running
full pelt, the SL Pro hit a respectable 4972 overall
PC Marks, running all tests within the benchmark.
Granted, the graphics score skewed the overall
score above average, but the TL60 Turion X2 didn’t
perform too badly. A similar specified Core 2
Duo will out perform the Turion by a considerable
margin, but an Intel version is extremely unlikely
to emerge.
In
order to squeeze at least an hour out of the 6600mAh
battery, the unit downclocks the graphics severally
while running on battery power alone – over
halving the performance. “3D mode”
is indicated by a blue light above the keyboard,
it can be disabled while running on AC, but there
is no way to enable it while running on batteries.
