Conclusion:
I’ve been able to spend a couple of weeks now playing around with the SilverStone MFP51 and I’ve had a fun time doing so. If you are looking for a way to create a Media Center PC without having to install a Media Center Operating System, I don’t see how you can go wrong selecting the SilverStone MFP51. It is working flawlessly and is quite a pleasant surprise after struggling with another Media Center system reviewed recently.
There is only one thing I’d recommend for SilverStone to improve the product, include an extension cable to allow an end user to connect the Front Panel Power Button more easily without the necessity of having to modify the existing cables that come with the PC Case. Many PC Case manufacturers are now using bundled wiring clusters that would have to be modified by the user to make the Front Panel Power Button functional as it stands now. I was able to get around this limitation by scavenging some wiring from another PC case no longer in use. If someone doesn’t have that option, I’m sure some wiring for this purpose can be picked up easily from the local computer shop, otherwise, including this item in future releases should be a very easy and low-cost addition. Including some AAA batteries would also be a good consideration.
While I can’t say that everyone should have this unit in their PC, I can say this: Anyone who wants a Media Center PC would be making an excellent choice to select the SilverStone MFP51. That puts this device on the list of our Editor’s Choice Awards. With flawless functionality, the SilverStone MFP51 would be an excellent addition and upgrade to just about any system due to its support for most Windows Operating Systems.
